Researchers in California just demonstrated that a mere six days of eating all organic is enough to significantly reduce levels of harmful pesticides in your body. In the study, four families (with completely different backgrounds) consumed conventional products for six days and had their urine tested. Then, they ate a 100 percent organic diet for six days and had their urine tested again. The drop in pesticide levels present in their urine between tests was massive. Some of the most affected pesticide levels were neonicotinoids and pyrethroids, which are ubiquitous in our lives and potentially damaging.
These results suggest that the toxins present in our bodies are the direct result of pesticide residue on our diets—which means eating organic really is as important as we’ve been led to believe. It also suggests that our bodies are pretty efficient at flushing these nasties out when we give them the right tools.
